Rule Sets

The 6d6 RPG is a flexible game. It was made this way because we know that the best game masters and players like to tweak, bend and, occasionally, completely change the rules.

Be Creative, Be Free

Whilst other games companies use copyright and licences to restrict players ability to grow the system and publishers their ideas, here at 6d6, we encourage it. All the rule sets are released under the Creative Commons (CC-BY-SA) licences giving GMs the freedom to use the rules any way they want.

6d6 Core is the engine that drives the 6d6 RPG. This rule sets covers all the essential mechanics in the game and is the starting point for developing new settings and rule sets.

Free!

6d6 Ultra-Lite is a cut-down version of the system that can be learnt in 30 seconds. Great for story-telling and pick-up games.

Coming Soon

Coming later this year is 6d6 Magic. A setting specific version of the 6d6 Core that covers magic spells, treasure and monsters for fantasy games.

6d6 Core Rule Set

The core rules are not tied to any particular setting or genre. Instead the book focuses on explaining the central game mechanics of the 6d6 RPG in a clear and easy to understand manner. Additionally there is a complete reference section on game terminology, rules and keywords.

No cards or decks are provided with the rule set. Generic cards are available separately and setting specific decks are supplied with the relevant rule set.

6d6 Ultra-Lite

This is a light and fast system ideal for story and character centred games. It ignores most of the combat mechanics of the full 6d6 RPG and focuses on the narrative aspect of the game.

30 Seconds To Learn

Players can be told all they need to know about the Ultra-Lite version in 30 seconds.

Each character is represent by a deck of character cards, usually around 12 cards. Each card identifies a skill, an area of knowledge, a physical attribute or a mental ability. To take an action, players combines up to four cards from their deck to describe how and what they are doing.

For example, a sleuth wants to chat with the suspects in the hope that one of them will accidentally let something slip. So they play their: Cunning + Small Talk + Psychology + Body Language cards. Each card is worth 1d6 so the player roles 4d6.

The only limit on which cards can be played together is commonsense.
