The scroll was not easy to find. Ulanni understood that to claim the power of her birthright would require her to prove herself. She was not expecting to have to climb a mountain haunted by mad spirits during a blizzard. From what her grandmother babbled about she thought the challenge would be a riddle or a test of moral character. On reaching the summit Ulanni found a simple metal chest unlocked and unguarded. As she read the scroll out loud, the mountain rumbled and the stars glowed red. The transformation didn’t hurt as she feared but it left her nauseous and overheated. As a majestic red dragon the trip to the valley floor was a trivial flight.
28 Heroines
RPG character inspiration for each day in February. Heroines with personality, depth and a problem to resolve.
She spent a month in those mountains, learning how to fly and breath fire. Ulanni can remain as a dragon for as long as she chooses provided she can eat enough to fuel the magics. Bored of looking at snow and eating burnt goat, she returned to the port town of her family home. It seemed even smaller that it did before she left. Her grandmother talked about duty and of the responsibility that comes with power. Ulanni has waited for something interesting to happen and now thinks that whatever danger prompted the scrolls creation is now long since passed. This has left her listless. The scroll was meant to give her a direction in life, not give her more options to choose from. For now it’s back to data entry at the insurance company.
