Revenge of the Jedi

Remember all those cool movie posters for Star Wars and Indiana Jones? They were produced by Drew Struzan who now has a great online gallery. In amongst some of the great movie posters of all time (plus Police Academy 1, 3 & 4) is this Revenge of the Jedi poster.

In case your nerd-lore has failed you, Revenge of the Jedi was the original title for Return of the Jedi.

The film was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi, and the original teaser trailer for the film carried this moniker. A released teaser poster created by Drew Struzan containing the dismissed title has since become a rare collector’s item. However, a few weeks before the film’s premiere, Lucas changed the title, saying “Revenge” could not be used, as it is not a Jedi concept. The 2005 prequel trilogy film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith later alluded to the dismissed title of Revenge of the Jedi.

  1. An old friend of mine has one of those original posters. Of course, he’s been a collector-type his whole life and had connections in the business as well.

  2. Another interesting fact concerning this poster was the colors of the lightsabers. The artist gave Luke the red saber and Darth Vader the blue one which as everyone knows that Luke always had the blue and Vader always used a red lightsaber! 😀
