 +Welcome to the 6d6 Role Playing Game.
 +
 +The 6d6 RPG is an easy-to-learn game that allows players an unparallelled flexibility in their characters and how they act. It uses cards to represent individual abilities and players combine their cards to describe an action. The cards can be combined in any way that the player can explain and justify to their fellow gamers.

 +=== Reading the 6d6 Core ===
 +
 +This document is the 6d6 Core rule set. It is called a rule set because it contains a set of just some of the possible rules used in the 6d6 RPG. Different settings or styles of games may use different sets of rules. Often there will be a large overlap with the 6d6 Core but other 6d6 rule sets may be radically different.
 +
 +The rule set is split into two broad sections. At the rear of the document is a reference section that contains each individual rule covered by this rule set. The front section and bulk of the document is an explanation of how to play the game. This describes how the rules should be applied and how they interact. At the end of each explanation there is a **Reference:** to the individual rules covered by that section.
 +
 +Nothing in the 6d6 Core is specific to a setting or a genre and these rules can be used to run any type of game - fantasy, science fiction or horror to name a few. Genre-specific rule sets such as 6d6 Magic will be available soon. These will have have different combinations of rules, including new rules, to cope with the unique requirements of that genre.
 +
 +=== Cards ===
 +
 +The cards needed to play the game are available separately from 6d6 Fireball. They can be purchased as PDFs for production at home or as pre-printed cards. Some of the sets of cards (known as 'decks') are generic and cover the sort of skills and abilities a real life human may have. Other decks are tied to specific genres such as magic spells for a fantasy setting or laser guns for a science fiction game.
 +
 +Players can also create their own cards and are encouraged to do so. The 6d6 RPG is all about creativity and everyone is encouraged to expand or change the game to suit themselves. The game is also under the Creative Commons licenses (CC-BY-SA) so you can share this document and cards with your friends. As long as you also use the CC-BY-SA license, you can also publish and sell anything you create for the game.
 +
 +The best way to use and expand this game is with the 6d6 Online Tools [ http://6d6rpgcom/wiki ]. These contain all the 6d6 rule sets, adventures and cards plus tools to help you create new cards and material for the game.
 +
 +=== Living Document ===
 +
 +If you purchased this document from 6d6 Fireball or one of their authorised suppliers you can register your purchase. Registered owners of 6d6 products get free PDF updates to every product they own. For life.
