 +== Advantages And Resistance ==

 +An <apdx ref="open:mechanics:rulecards:advantage">advantage</apdx> increases the chances of a character completing an action. All advantages help by adding dice and modifiers to the action but advantages can also help by reducing the resistance. Generally, the more specific the advantage is the more it reduces the situation bonuses that may apply.
 +
 +Compare the Manual Dexterity advantage with the Throw advantage. Both can be used to throw things but Manual Dexterity can be used on lots of other tasks. The Throw advantage is more specialised and there will be less situations where it can be used. So why would a player choose the Throw advantage for their character? The answer is in the keywords. Throw has the <apdx ref="open:mechanics:rulecards:27286">Range (1)</apdx> keyword whereas Manual Dexterity does not. By <apdx ref="open:mechanics:rulecards:27781">default</apdx>, Manual Dexterity has the Range (0) which means at least a 1d6+0 situation bonus is automatically added to the resistance when throwing with just Manual Dexterity.
 +
 +Generally speaking, the more specialised the advantage, the more situation dice it removes. Advantages may simply allow a character to attempt an action that is otherwise impossible. The Telekinesis advantage may have face a high resistance roll due to range but it allows the character to manipulate objects impossible to reach with their hands.
