Creating Cards

Cards are defined using the <card> tag.

Basics

Each card should be created on a new page with no additional content. If multiple cards are placed on the same page or there is other text on the page, this will cause problems when printing. (See printing_your_cards). It is also recommend that the pages for cards are placed in a distinct section, e.g. :open:cards:my_setting or :member:my_account:my_setting:cards. This will make organisation easier and help keep them compatible with future improvement to 6d6 Online such as a dedicated card search.

Card Attributes

The <card> supports several attributes that help define the card and how it is handled by the system.

type

The most important and only mandatory attribute is the card type.

e.g. <card type="life">

Type Description
mechanic Pink border used for Initiative cards etc. Properties - title, summary, charactername
life Green border. Properties - title, summary, charactername, characterpoints, dice, keywords
equipment White border. Properties - title, summary, charactername, characterpoints, dice, keywords
ability Green border. Properties - title, summary, charactername, characterpoints, dice, keywords
path Purple border. Properties - title, summary, charactername, keywords, available
hazard Red border. Properties - title, summary, charactername, characterpoints, dice, keywords

rawsvg Special, use with care. Allows the user to specify user defined SVG. Property - USERSVG
rawscard As per 'rawsvg' except the default SVG is sized to a standard card size.
terrain Special
charactermarker Special

Style

Sets the cards style, e.g. <card type="life" style="mini">. Only two styles exist: Default and Mini.

If not specified, the system uses the 'default' style which is 85mm wide, 54mm high and contains all the properties. The 'mini' style is used for monster sheets, is physically smaller and miss some properties.

CSS

Sets additional CSS classes to the cards formatting. These are currently undocumented.

Ref

Uses the card specified in the Ref as its basis and any additional properties will overwrite those from the referenced card.

e.g. <card ref=":open:cards:DirtyFighting"></card> produces -

Where as <card ref=":open:cards:DirtyFighting"><property name="dice">1d6+6</property></card> creates

Property Tag

The <property></property> tag defines the content of the card. Each property on a card needs its own set of tags and if not specified they are left blank, or in the case of a referenced card, uses the value of the source card.

There is only one attribute to the <property> tab, 'name'. This specifies the name of the property. The value of the property is whatever text appears between the opening and closing tags.

e.g. <property name="title">Dirty Fighting</property> when placed in a card tag like this -

<card type="ability"><property name="title">Dirty Fighting</property></card>

produces this:

Cards can be made up of one or more properties so that this -

<card type="ability"> <property name="title">Dirty Fighting</property> <property name="summary">Street-fighting skills. Ad-hoc weapons used with this skill count as 1d6+0 rather than the usual 0d6+2. They also Rotate.</property> <property name="keywords">Close Quarters, Open Melee, Skill</property> <property name="characterpoints"></property> <property name="dice"></property> </card>

produces this -
